Hi Bob!

I have noticed that it now seems to be set on UTC; I'm in the western US
in the Pacific (UTC -8:00 at the moment) zone.?? When I select a show
for recording, the "Upcoming recordings" tab shows the start time as
eight hours later than the show's actual start time here.

My guess is your Backend computer is set for the wrong time zone,
perhaps when initially configuring it (as in when installing
Xubuntu) you used the default of GMT instead you Pacific Time
Zone. Remember to also configure to automatically switch for
      Daylight Savings Time!!

I'm also vaguely recalling in an old-old computer here I had to
set the time zone in the BIOS. I doubt if your computer is that
old, just mentioning. Also, if your computer doesn't keep the
time and date when powering up there's a coin cell battery on the
      motherboard which needs replacing.

As for the HDPVR issue, others will be a better source of
troubleshooting information, I'm guessing an external device so
make sure the cable is installed fully. I had an HDMI cable
giving intermittent sound: ended up the connection felt tight but
the connector body was rubbing against the chassis and needed to
be shoved in a bit more.

Use 'lsusb' ('lspci' if internal) to make sure is being detected
by Xubuntu -- if the system doesn't detect it MythTV won't either.
