<div dir="ltr"><div>On my old network I had my mythtv backend with a reserved IP setup by my old router.  <br></div><div><br></div><div>Due to issues with the family wondering about the house with cell phones and tablets dropping out with WiFi calling, I decided to update the WiFi AP router to one of those new fancy Mesh routers. The TP-Link AX5000 was on sale this month at Costco for $180 which is about what I'm willing to spend for a router every 3 years.  They quit fixing the bugs and security issues soon after that time period.</div><div><br></div><div>So let me warn you.  On these fancy new routers, there is no way to set them up using a PC browser.  Impossible!.  You  need a cell phone app from the manufacturer. Had I blindly followed the app's step by step, I might have gotten there quicker but in the end I had my network setup correctly before that app could figure out that there was not an issue.  <br></div><div><br></div><div>At some point the app detected that everything was working and let me examine some parameters and set up my reserved addresses.</div><div><br></div><div>The biggest issue is that the network IP is no longer <a href="http://192.168.0.0/255">192.168.0.0/255</a> as my old TP-Link AP router was.  Now it's 192.168.68/22. All my devices are between 192.168.68.50 and 192.168.71.250</div><div><br></div><div>To get things going before prime time tv started recording, I just reserved the address that got assigned to the mythtv-backend even though it was not the easiest to remember.  I'm back to having a notebook with all my important IPs that are reserved posted on the fridge.</div><div><br></div><div>Going through and modifying all the frontends, and services that actually require an IP address and not a hostname is a pain.  I'd like to fix that but don't have the skills yet.</div><div><br></div><div>I can ssh into the backend using "ssh kubuntu-closet.local" and that moves when the ip changes.  But I can't get that to work Leanfront, Kodi, nfs, autofs, etc.  SMB/CIFS seems to find it regardless of IP.</div><div><br></div><div>My new router has a way to set up things like dns servers at the router level and the dhcp server level.  I've used that to get pi-hole ad blocker to work.</div><div><br></div><div>Any ideal that doesn't require a masters in computer science.  I'm a lowly BSEE educated before the internet was invented.</div><div><br></div><div>Jim A</div><div><br></div></div>
