Myth, was the ALSA driver not seeing the HDMI audio device. This
happened in some earlier Ubuntu releases where adding
"intel_iommu=on,igfx_off" to /etc/default/grub was a workaround.
That worked here too.</div>

going back years for a lot of different applications, but
never had it on a mythtv build. I get it that its just about a
restriction in a system-wide install outside the package
