Essentially correct (although there are always<br>
edge cases with some distros packaging<br>
management solutions).<br>

I always recommend building and installing<br>
via packages (when the distro supports that),<br>
even for "personal" builds for use on<br>
(more or less) production/stable systems,<br>
as a package will also create appropriate<br>
dependencies for install, typically detect<br>
ABI incompatibilities from other packages,<br>
and fully replace/remove any cruft at upgrade<br>
or package removal.<br>

For that reason, I created my own packaging<br>
(and a private distribution repo for upgrades<br>
across my mythtv ecosystem, which also<br>
makes OS updates trivial as MythTV<br>
also gets updated at the same time).<br>

There is certainly overhead to get started,<br>
but (as has been mentioned) there are<br>
many good sources (including both the<br>
MythTV project itself, and various repo<br>
