Yes! Can't be too many +1s for this! Couldn't do without my<br>
mythfrontend. Still working like a charm on my ancient hardware no<br>
less. Many thanks to the devs!<br>

Tom<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>I second and third these sentiments!! </div><div><br></div><div>I am an old school OTA TV watcher that runs an (almost) always on combined BE / FE on my now ancient vizio 50" dumb tv. It hooks up to the VGA connector, and audio in from the computer's sound card. It's got an old PCI hauppauge card with two tuners and a small digital HD antenna that I have to move around to get good signals as the weather changes.</div><div><br></div><div>I can't even afford the subscription prices for the guide so I get it via EIT. Every time I see a movie or a new tv show I want to record, I have to use the metadata query to get the inet ref so I get good visual metadata to see in my recordings listings. Since EIT doesn't include that info or season and episode numbers for recurring shows I often look them up and fill in the blank data so if I decide to "save" the recording (i.e. cut out the commercials and transcode into x.264) I have valid season and episode numbers. It's a bit of work but I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching commercial free tv. and the picture quality can't be beat! </div><div><br></div><div>Elsewhere in my house we have cable TV from a well known provider, but if it's a sporting event or something that goes fast like 'Dancing with the Stars', you can tell that the compressed signal coming over cable is not as clean as the pure mpeg2 direct from broadcast!</div><div><br></div><div>And the sound quality is much better too - not sure why it is, but if I use HDMI from my cable box, I have to turn the volume up like twice or three times higher than what the computer delivers to the tv via the simple audio input wire.</div><div><br></div><div>Although out of curiosity I have tried using kodi frontend and plex, but neither gives the myth tv experience like I want. I even had the kodi / mythtv plugins that allowed me to watch live tv and schedule recording and such, but since I couldn't edit the commercial cuts, I quickly realized I had to go back to just straight mythtv! Now I don't even have kodi installed.</div><div><br></div><div> Every year or so I check out the updated themes and experiment with new layouts and such, but I usually switch back to the standard mythtv theme.</div><div><br></div><div>I am impressed that this ancient workstation (duel first generation zeon cpus and 4 gig of ram) can do 3 recordings at a time, while I'm watching a fourth recording, and still run commercial detection on everything as it records and nary a lag when I press pause or anything! </div><div><br></div><div>The only thing that would make it better is an infinite size storage group!! </div><div><br></div><div>So thanks to everyone involved in this list, to the developers who work on both the frontend and the backend and everyone who develops themes and everything else! </div><div><br></div><div>It is really special to have and I really enjoy watching my favorite tv shows without commercial interruptions!!</div><div><br></div><div>George</div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">
