in 0.29 Frontend setup has a setting "<span class="pl-s">Extra audio
buffering<span class="pl-pds">". Does turning that on or off make
a difference?<br>

In 30 (master) that checkbox is changed to a number of
milliseconds of extra buffer you can choose. The old "Extra
Audio Buffering" is equal to a setting of 100ms.<br>
<br>
If you go into the playback audio sync, and adjust it, does the
audio sound good ignoring the fact that lip-sync will be wrong?
If so, then using version 30 and adjusting the extra audio
buffering higher will solve it.<br>

v30 frontend as of today will work with a v29 backend. This is
not always the case. You could uninstall v29 mythtv-light and
then install the v30 mythtv-light.<br>
