Are you absolutely sure the password is right for connecting to the database for the user you're running the command as.  Try running it with --verbose.<br>

A quickly produced zero byte file is exactly what I get when ~/.mythtv/config.xml has the wrong user/password and there's no warning unless you run it with --verbose.<br>
