If you select HDMI audio in MythTV audio setup you should see a bunch of check boxes for Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. If you leave these unchecked it forces MythTV to use PCM to send multi-channel audio data to the HDMI device. Some HDMI devices may not support multi-channel PCM audio, and in that case the audio can come out of the wrong speakers. If your sound system supports Dolby Digital (and most sound systems will support it), select the "Dolby Digital" check box and also select "speaker configuration" as 5.1. This will pass-thru dolby digital sound to your sound system where it will be correctly decoded to the 5.1 channels. In this scenario, the MythTV speaker test may not correctly address the 5 channels. Do not worry about the MythTV speaker test - try it out with a real video or recording.<br></blockquote><div><br></div><div>I already have all the options checked. My receiver is brand new so it supports all the major surround sound.  </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">
