<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div>Comcast is jacking up my rates again and I am finally motivated to switch from my current scheme based on four (4) DTAs attached to two (2) Hauppauge PVR-500 dual analog tuner cards, especially since I finally succeeded in migrating off of MythTV 0.23 awhile back!<br><br></div><div>I've scanned through the MythTV wiki, and didn't find answers to some questions, so I'm posting in the hopes of further enlightenment. :-)<br></div><div><br></div><div>More about my current configuration:<br></div><ul><li>I'm currently running MythBuntu 14.04 (which is to say I'm running MythTV version 0.27.6)<br></li><li>My primary TV is still a CRT TV, so I don't have any real reason to record HD (big file size) vs. SD (smaller file size).</li><li>Currently, all recordings go straight to disk as .mpg files.  I don't transcode anything.</li><li>I believe my system can handle transcoding if it would be beneficial.  I have a quad-core Intel i3-3250 processor and 16GB memory on my BE/FE.</li><li>I have two secondary FEs, but they're relatively lower performing systems, since they just need to feed CRT TVs with recorded shows.<br></li></ul></div></div>If more details of my current configuration are needed, just ask. :-)<br><br></div>Now for my questions:<br><ul><li>What file format will recordings from the Ceton tuner default to on my system storage? Still mpg? H.264? mpeg4 (m4v?)?<br></li><li>Will it be to my benefit to transcode recordings made with the Ceton to reduce storage requirements?</li><li>Will I need to change my SchedulesDirect configuration?  If so, what am I looking to change?</li><li>What pitfalls should I be aware of as I make this transition (besides the travail of dealing with Comcast to get the CableCard working?) -- On that score, any "magic words" to use when working with Comcast to get the CableCard provisioned properly?</li></ul><p>Thanks in advance for helping me out.</p><p>--</p><p>Craig.<br></p></div>
