The NUC5CPYH is $126.26 brand new on Amazon today. I bough the NUC5PPYH (the 4-core Pentium version) for a little over $160. Used ION's now call for a "legacy" driver, which is a little too dicey for my taste. Ubuntu Drive Manager was offering later drivers that didn't support the device, in addition to the one "legacy" version. A driver update to the legacy edition from a couple of weeks ago killed my frontend until I rolled back to the previous version.

The one thing I'm not loving about the Intel chipsets is that the video seems a little lessy contrasty and a little softer, as well as possibly a little warmer than the same video from the ION. Not sure what is going on there, I'll be doing a little research over the weekend.

Steve

On Fri, Nov 18, 2016 at 2:13 AM, rob e <redgerhoo@yahoo.com.au> wrote:

That's the Celeron option, yes? ?A bit pricey compared to the ION
machines I bought at about C$100. ?Those were with 2G of RAM also but
no local storage (HDD, SSD, etc.) though, so maybe comparable. ?Except
that I can't scale a Chromebox back (i.e. buy without an SSDa) to those

cheaper IONs to make them cheaper. ?MythFEs really don't need any local
storage (if you netboot them, which I do) never mind SSD.
yes and yes :) I bought the Nuc second hand at a reasonable price. The Chromebox is a much better deal, you may be able to buy one for about US$120 on Black Friday (or similar) special as I did

Alternately go for an AMLogic S905 or S905x box eg. Odroid C2 etc and use Kodi as a front end. I intend to experiment with that approach (machine on order). More capable graphics, lower power and much cheaper than any Intel options.
