Apart from all the other options you've had, IIRC there are gadgets available that sit in the HDMI lead and have the sole function of saving the EDID info from the TV/monitor and passing it to the computer when the TV is off.

AIUI, TVs are supposed (according to the HDMI spec) to provide the EDID even when off (in power save, guess it would be hard when unplugged) or switched to another input. It seems that most don't - and these gadgets are there to work around such problems.

I did a quick search for "edid saver" and quickly found that "we are not alone" with this problem, it looks like "edid emulator" might be a better search term.

I had a similar problem with my receiver and my television. If I booted with the television and receiver off, X would load but would get stuck on the logon screen. I have my system set to automatically log on and start mythfrontend. If I booted with everything on, I could switch back and forth, but this probably varies for different video equipment.

What I had to do was to grab the EDID information using help from the webpage below from the wiki. There is probably an analogous method for other video card manufacturers.

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Nvidia-cards_and_no_picture_when_box_is_on_before_the_TV

Hope that helps,

Jerry
