Preface: I am the same Barry Martin as has the "Q" in his address - don't know how much is seen and want to maintain a little bit of privacy! The reason for the address change was it seems with the "Q account" I can rarely upload. AFAICT I've got things correct and a Postmaster server thinks I'm spam or something. Bad enough I'm having problems with the tuner card...

And now for the post, copied from the Q acct's SENT directory:
Try #6: mythtv-users@mythtv.org ==> copied and posted from MythTV subscribe page. C&P in address bar and this line.
Hi Geoff!

First , I apologize for the delay in responding, part of that is working. Second, may have found a problem:

I have NO idea why you should see the tuner "on the frontend". All the
tuner setup etc, is usually done under mythtv-setup and the backend and
frontend are not running when that is done (mythtv-setup will warn you
and ask if you want to stop the backend).

What ARE you running? And do you have mythtv-setup in /usr/local/bin
(usual spot).

I did an 'ls usr/local/bin' ==> nothing (goes back to a prompt). ls /usr/local does givebin etc games include lib man sbin share src. Header bar in Terminal does indicate I'm on the Backend portion: "MythBE1".

When I go to MCC > MySQL > #2 Capture Cards the next screen has

Capture Cards
(New Capture Card)
(Delete all capture cards on MythjFE1) <== indicate I'm at Frontend!
(Delete all capture cards)

I also 'noticed' the HVR-1600 card was listed twice on the Frontend's System Status page. Re-activating the Frontend (via Mythfilldatabase) to load. Get two cards listed, both adapter0/frontend0, but one is Tuner 1 (and this one works), the other is Tuner 9 (not available).

Back to the Backend (MCC), deleting the one card card I see deleted Tuner 9, leaving Tuner 1.

I don't see anything re: the HVR-2250 cards. My notes from April 23rd state I had installed the HVR-2250 Drivers (the wget and sudo cp steps). Next was to reboot. Ran out of time so just powered off. Sunday worked. Today is Monday April 25 and -- oops! do see the two halves of the HVR2250! Will see if this message will upload, get a bit of lunch and see what happens installing the HVR-2250. (OK, try #2!) (#3 - manually type in address) (#4: click on address at top of an incoming; blank compose; copy message in.) (Grr! OK, #5 - at the Myth subscribe site and click on the address there.)

I have the funny feeling I will be told to re-install from scratch! No idea how the installation got that screwed up!
