<div dir="ltr">I really don't have any plans to use h265 for quite some time. I really doubt the cable companies are going to start using it since many of them are still stuck on mpeg2. I also can't see OTA changing that much too, but I could be wrong. <div><br></div><div>I would guess since Myth is mostly for DVR type recordings, I don't think it will be well supported. Another guess is that most of the support for h265 within myth would be done outside of myth with an external player. It looks like H265 playback is already supported in the master branch ( 0.28 ). I'm guessing it was added automatically with new version of ffmpeg being used.<br>

Playback of a 4k video does work, but has occasional pauses when played through mythtv ( but plays smoothly through vlc on my system). It would only playback using xvideo, as the opengl render crashes the frontend immediately on playback.<br>

I'll take a deeper look at the code and see what it would take to add support for H265_VDPAU. First glance, it looks like only a few files that would need to change.<span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888"><br>

I believe the current answer is "When you have written and contributed it" :-)<br>

There is nothing wrong with adding HEVC support to the wishlist/feature<br>
request list on the forum, but one should understand that the list is not<br>
a priority list, it is just a list. People who contribute to MythTV work on<br>
what interests them (at the moment), and as of right now, I have seen<br>
no great interest expressed by anyone for making all the changes<br>
needed for HEVC (probably because there is a dearth of actual<br>
interesting content, and the hardware support is very limited at this<br>
time). As with all such capabilities, that will eventually change,<br>
so perhaps when the BBC remasters "The Planet" into "Ultra" 4K and<br>
people expect to be able to walk up to their 80" OLED and see the<br>
dust on the hummingbird's wings someone will jump into the fray.<br>
