Have you disabled 'fast startup' Window 8 ? It it a 'feature',
enabled by default, where upon shutdown, it instead just hibernates.
Your favourite search engine should provide a better explanation,
and how to disable it.
Had a pwconv error, fixed that by adding nomodeset, then I ran into what appears to either be a driver issue or a systemd issue (was trying 15.04). Tried 14.04.2 and ran into that pwconv error again, but nomodeset isn't fixing it this time.

I remember messed around with adding a
few Grub boot options as well during my first run at the Meego pad. I
can't remember what I tried exactly, however my current Grub options
are only GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="rootdelay=9" If I
remember correctly, I added the rootdelay because I thought the Meego
needed so time to populate the eMMC. I'm not to sure if that is
needed however. I just left it as is though. I'm thinking that a bios
option MAY have negated the reason to add that Grub option.
