There are far too many types that Android does not natively support. For instance, there is nothing I can do if you store your video rip as an ISO of the dvd. However, I do have a common ground to work with in that Android natively HTTP Live Streaming. It provides acceptable performance, bandwidth, quality, etc. It also helps to not kill the device battery as it can take advantage of hardware acceleration and not try to do everything in software.</div><div><br></div><div>Here is the list of what Android will support natively:</div><div><a href="http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html">http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>But I have found that not even everything on that list works for me. I am using a Nexus 6 with Android 5.0.1. I also have a Android TV with Android 5.0. I have tried many ways, but the the Bluray rips made with MakeMKV do not play on any of my devices. It was my intention to let mp4, 3gp, mkv play natively, since they are on the list, however, I could not get most of them to play. So I went back to HLS and that was able to play them. Same with recordings.</div><div><br></div><div>What I am really hoping for is getting as close to a Netflix or Google Play Movies & TV experience as possible. Having to force an HLS transcode throws a bit a wrinkle in the mix, but, once its going, it plays through pretty seamlessly.</div><div><br></div><div>Dan</div></div></div>
