Given the kernel panics and seg faults I was getting during installation
 on this box, I wonder if there's not just something broken with the MB itself...could account for the CPU and Video Card Errors.<br><br></div><div class="gmail_extra">I suppose it COULD be the CPU that's broken, but I've never seen a CPU give out (It's got a hella good aftermarket cooler on it).  I don't think the video card is to blame (I can't see where the video card would be the culpret in all the issues) but maybe I'm not looking at something right.<br></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br></div><div class="gmail_extra">Anyway it goes, the old Myth box is pretty much ADR (Ain't Doin' Right) and at the moment, I just don't have a whole lot of need to take that diagnosis any farther than I already have.<br><br></div><div class="gmail_extra">--Doug<br></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></blockquote><div><br></div><div>I have had two bad CPUs with aftermarket coolers.  It can definitely happen.  Last January we had a bad ice storm and there were several power surges.  I have this machine on a new UPS and it still got damaged.  I sent back the motherboard several times only to find it was the CPU, which was covered by Intel's warranty.<br><br></div><div>The time before that, I was getting errors when compiling the kernel.  I think this is what clued me into the bad CPU diagnosis.  Unfortunately, the CPU wasn't covered that time.<br><br></div><div>I am not a troubleshooting expert but I would look into CPU testing with your favorite search engine.  I think a compile test will do it but I am not certain this is an indicator.<br><br></div><div>If it's the motherboard, then of course things would also be screwy.  I'm not sure how you troubleshoot a motherboard other than sending it in for repair.  I sent mine back and forth and it took a month.  It was very frustrating, and I ended up with a refurbished board.  ASUS was the brand.<br><br>The process with Intel was very quick -- I did the advanced RMA after doing troubleshooting with a CSR and the actual exchange took a little over a week.  I got a factory new CPU.<br><br></div><div>If it is still under warranty, it might be worth it to open up a ticket with Intel or AMD.<br><br></div><div>Good luck and let us know your progress.<br><br></div><div>Jerry<br></div></div></div></div>
