I addressed the exit and shutdown issue in the first response to
your message. I'm pasting here for convenience:
You need to add your user to the sudoers file and give them
permission to run the shutdown command you have defined in the
mythtv settings without being prompted for password. Usually it
looks something like this:

user_name ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /sbin/poweroff, /sbin/reboot, /sbin/shutdown

Please accept my sincere apologies for starting a

for some assistance in a couple of problems.
Evidently the version war took the thread completely off
track. Still unsolved is the issue of Exit and Shutdown
which worked properly in Mythbuntu 12.04/0.27.3 and quit
working in Mythbuntu 14.04/0.27.3. Has that
been dealt with somewhere I haven't seen? Am I the only one
to encounter the problem?

Your solution provided a workaround so maybe I didn't word the
question quite properly: Why is it necessary to apply a workaround
for 14.04 when none was needed for 12.04? Was that intentional?
