<p dir="ltr">Hardware wise, my PC has not changed in years. I have used used various versions of MythTv and Ubuntu, successfully, in the past, because Windows Vista was terrible. When Windows 7 came out, I put Ubuntu in the back burner. When 14.04 came out, I decided to look at Ubuntu again. I installed the latest version of MythTv and the ppa's to keep it updated. I wasn't having the video frame buffering issue until recently. I thought perhaps one of the daily updates was the cause, but I do not know how to debug it. I do not have an HD antenna to receive Over the Air channels. I doubt that Scify channel comes Over the Air.</p>

I feel fairly confident in saying that you cannot have been<br>
running Ubuntu 14.04 for several years. So, that means<br>
you likely changed not only the MythTV version, but the<br>
OS version, much more recently. And when you essentially<br>
upgrade "everything", some new issues may be seen.<br>

First things first, make sure you are running MythTV 0.27.3.<br>
Numerous changes/improvements were made in Live TV in<br>
the later fixes updates from the original 0.27. As with all else,<br>
the problems may not be resolved, but you are unlikely to<br>
get much assistance if you are not on the release that<br>
included all those fixes.<br>

I will note that TWC in upstate NY has (for simple values)<br>
all the same channels in clear QAM that they have on<br>
analogue (and at least the local HD channels too). You<br>
might want to consider using your HVR1600 in clear QAM<br>
mode. I doubt it will solve the LiveTV issues, but the<br>
quality tends to be more consistent and better, and you<br>
get a few HD channels.<br>
