<p dir="ltr">So, after eliminating bottlenecks with CPU, I/O, and network, I figured the only thing left was X. I did two things, the first of which I think solved the problem:</p>
<p dir="ltr"> sudo apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-common<br>
sudo apt-get autoremove <br>
which removed a bunch of kernel header files and nvidia-settings</p>
<p dir="ltr">Keyboard and remote response has returned to normal. Hope this helps others.</p>
