That might do the job. Looks like I'd have to do the 5.1 audio
decode in software on the Myth side instead of just passing it through
to the amp. Wonder if there is a way to have Myth send multi-channel
audio to one alsa device and two channel to another.... I see config
options for PassThruDeviceOverride and PassTh
ruOutputDevice, if those do
what they sound like they do I just might be in luck. Looks like the
next weekend I don't have house full of grandkids I'll be tinkering.

If that doesn't work you could always get a cheap, Chinese decoder to do your dac and downmix from the split digital and pass on the 2 channel analog signal from there ;-)

This unit is very flexible. You can output just about any surround signal to any combination of speakers (power amps not included) and it automatically downmixes
(they're identical to the old Klipsch promedia dd 5.1 ).

The only trouble is that I haven't found a retail output for them, so you'd have to be a business to ask them to send a sample.

My dd 5.1 just fell apart, and I've replaced it with a slightly sonically superior, but
far less flexible unit.

Cheers

Marius
