Set HD recordings to automatically get a slightly elevated priority (I think I have +5 set). I think it's been fixed now, but ITV1 HD used to not do HD flags in their EPG, so I used to just set that channel to a higher priority since I knew that everything on it is HD.<br>

When setting priorities on programmes for other reasons (i.e. things you really want recorded rather than nice-to-have), make sure you use much larger values than the value that you used in step 3. So in my case, HD broadcasts get +5 (to make them more desirable than non-HD versions of the same), but a programme that I really want recorded might get +30.<br>
</div><div></div><div><br></div>This seems to work well. Programmes that are available in HD usually get their HD editions chosen by the scheduler, even if broadcast later, due to the priority bump. Programmes that are not available in HD get recorded by the SD tuners. Occasionally the HD tuner will get pulled in for an SD programme if the system has run out of SD tuners.<br>
