--Based on the above discovery, I started playing with permissions. I granted the mythtv ID access to ~/.mythtv, ~/.mythtv/tmp and ~/.mythtv/tmp/hls. This made no difference, either when running mythbackend normally under the mythtv ID or under my ID.</pre>
