Thank you for the information. It's very insightful. At least FIOS doesn't implement SDV and DRM in my area (for now at least).<div><br></div><div>So besides WMC and Tivo, what other DVR software/products will work with the Time Warner SDV / DRM setup?<br>

The basic gist is that in order to protect the content from you, the user, both the keys to the content, and the software that handles the keys and the unencrypted content, must be outside the control of the user. The software must be distributed as a signed binary, and it must only be willing to communicate with other signed or otherwise authenticated software, lest you as a user rip out the protection mechanisms and recompile.<br>

While nothing prevents an implementation of DRM algorithm to be distributed as open source, any functional software must be closed.<div class="HOEnZb"><div class="h5"><br>
