<p>Measure the current draw to your TV both when active and when off. When you turn the TV off, you can detect the decrease in current and initiate shutdown on the frontent (oneshot to opto that shorts power switch pins). Same for power on, the increase in current also triggers the oneshot. The circuit itself wouldn't draw much power but would have to be on all the time.</p>

Just throwing out some ideas I collected for NoStandbyStandby :-)<br>

When I was thinking about the same issue I ended up with a concept for<br>
a IR receiver that outputs to a relay to cut power to PC/TV/itself and<br>
the IR data to LIRC.<br>
It would have a low power mode where it runs on a capacitor big enough<br>
for one week of IR reception and still having enough juice to pull the<br>
relay in front of the PC. The relay was self-latching and be reset at<br>
the end of the shutdown (as indicated by the PSU turning of power).<br>

Seriously - if you have MythTV, you already have the Rolls Royce of DVRs, you cannot expect it to compete in the same PS arena as the 2 tuner crap you can get with the US providers (they turn off their lights, but the computer is still fully running). None of them have wake on recording, etc.. <br>
