</div>Or myth distros could enforce setting up the data on a different<br>
partition so that 1st time users aren't caught in a trap. There is<br>
enough to learn when first installing mythtv without needing to second<br>
guess a supposedly specialist distro's partitioning scheme (or lack of<br>
scheme).<br>

/var/lib/mythtv may be the default location for the recordings<br>
directory because of some desire to go with filesystem purity, but it<br>
is difficult to set as a separate partition on installation, and<br>
non-intuitive, particularly if you haven't set up mythtv before and<br>
have got lost in the wiki.<br>
