888 was the teletext page number that the subtitles were on.<div>Now they are simply an one of the components of the MPEG transport stream; therefore the subtitles are in the MPEG file (why are you extracting them I am curious - I dont understand why people would want to extract subtitles except for niche reasons search as searching spoken text in audio mining applications for research purposes and tv show production).</div>
<div><br></div><div>as for why they are not being extracted; are you sure that the recording has subtitles, not all shows have subtitles. Try playing the program back and seeing if subtitles are available you can do this in VLC or with Mythfrontend.</div>
