Hi

On Thursday, 19 January 2012, John Stepien <hackerbeavis@yahoo.com> wrote:

> The processors I'm considering are either a Core i5-2405S Sandy Bridge 2.5GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 65W or a Core i7-2600S Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 65W, and there is about a $90 price difference between these two processors.

I used an i5-2300 for my latest FE/BE. The reason I chose that CPU is because 1) it's the cheapest and 2) various reports showed the power consumption to be overall less or the same than the more expensive low-power i5 version. The figures are max TDP, not how much it will use overall.

My BE does everything you listed above and more, and the CPU is pretty much constantly idle: hence the power saving being the same.

Having said that the processor I used before a e8200 core 2 duo was just as good too and I never felt the machine wasn't fast enough. The processor will spent most of its time idling..
