                Yes I am using EIT for my sources. That&#39;s just what I
                got working when I first installed mythtv. I&#39;m in
                London, UK. Is there a xmltv source I could use that
                might be better?<br>

      yet, perhaps I should. Now it still doesn&#39;t shut down properly but
      mythwelcome.log has different entries...<br>

sounds like you might need to setup sudo to allow it to run mythshutdown <br>

replace mythtv with user you use to run mythshutdown<br>

There is a guide on the wiki to setup mythwelcome and mythshutdown, Ive 
had to follow it again after an ugprade in the past.  It might be worth 
going through it again.<br>
