checked that the menu item isn't set to "Lock Shutdown"
(or something like that) in the mythwelcome screen?

Yes I am using EIT for my sources. That's just what I got working
when I first installed mythtv. I'm in London, UK. Is there a xmltv
source I could use that might be better?<br>

So the schedule change event might be an update from EIT that's
stalling the shutdown?<br>
