I'm using Mythbuntu, and have tried with MythTV 0.24 and 0.25 - My
recordings just show up as nonexistant and I cannot start live TV
(there is a black screen, then it exits without warning).

Here are the lines that look relevant from the backend log:
Judging from that, it looks like there's a V4L issue?

I rolled back to 0.23 temporarily, and while I was able to start
recordings and live TV, eventually the backend would stop responding
and I'd have to ssh in and restart it (I'm using a standalone backend
with my frontend attached via ethernet).

Can someone help me out with this, please?

Have you had any luck with this? I get a similar log output, specifically I was looking at format_to_mode() does not recognize V4L1. Through some digging I found this bug thread https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/717717. It states that V4L header files are not included in the latest kernel.

The thread also says it has been fixed in the mythbuntu nightly repos which I tried but still as of today, doesn't seem to have fixed the issue. For reference, I am using an HDPVR and just recently updated to 11.04 with the 2.6.38 kernel. Synaptic says I have 2:0.24.0+fixes.20110511.97118ac-ubuntu0mythbuntu3 as the current installed mythtv-backend version. I also tried the test2 ppa listed at the end of that bug thread and didn't seem to fix the issue either.

If you or someone else can give some more advice that would be great. I'd rather not build mythtv from source, but if someone has some good information on how to do it on 11.04 I'd be willing to give it a shot if it will fix this issue.

Thanks

-Spencer
