Have you all set proper (read 10s or more) timeouts for your
HD-PVRs in
mythtv-setup?
I do not recall needing to restart the mythbackend recently. In the
past I have done that, but recently I have been walking to the
basement and pressing the silver power button on the HD-PVR
to power it off, wait a few seconds, and then press it again to
power it back on.

And I just checked my database and my timeouts are also 12s for both
my HD-PVR's channel_timeout.

When you encounter this issue, do you notice whether or not your
HD-PVR blue 'halo' light is on, indicating it is recording? Since
the recordings take place in my basement, I am never around to see
exactly when it happens. I have a suspicion that a previous show
finishes recording but somehow the device recording is not being
fully turned off which causes it to be 'busy' when it is needed.
However, I have not been present to actually confirm this.
