So far, I am trying to resolve this problem as follows:

1. Cablevision is offering free additional STBs for one year, so I obtained one Scientific Atlanta SA4200 HD (for use of the firewire port) and one Scientific Atlanta SA4200 (already have one of those using a serial port IR Blaster).

2. I am trying to figure out how to use my existing serial port IR Blaster in conjunction with a PVR-150 IR blaster. Having trouble figuring out the LIRC configuration for Mythbuntu. Right now I am trying not to break the one lirc process that's working.

3. For my third input, I am experimenting with the firewire on the HD box. So far if I use the MythTV settings without a channel changer script, I get no recording when "Point to point" is selected, and static is recorded if "Broadcast" is selected.

Any suggestions would be appreciated re: my LIRC or firewire configuration. My ultimate goal is to patch this together until the CableCard-friendly hardware is available, because that seems to be a better solution. I don't want to pay for all those STBs!

That's right. The only release date we have for the hardware is
"later this year", but they're working with the mythtv developers and
support for the hardware is already scheduled to be in the next MythTV
release, even though the hardware isn't here yet.

Some people seem to have a very stable firewire connection to Verizon
STB's and can record a lot of channels flawlessly. Others have
struggled to get it working and had mixed success. YMMV. The HDPVR
is an option that works, but it's somewhat expensive. If you only
want SD, then you can use your existing cards to encode
composite/S-Video output from an SD STB.
