<p>Up to now I've been using a USB-connected IR receiver on my
mythtv frontend, but for my new '<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://mythtv1.wordpress.com/2010/09/06/more-mythtv-front-end-photos/"
target="_blank">frontend in an old sky box</a>' I want to
use the IR receiver device that is already sitting mounted on
the PCB inside the front of my case.</p>
<p>If I wire up the IR receiver with a couple of components as
shown on the lirc page <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>,
and connect it to the serial port header on my motherboard,
how do I tell 'lircd' that I'm using a device on the serial
port?</p>
<p>Any pointers or links to FAQs appreciated!</p>
<p>Thanks!<br>
George</p>

I believe you just change from using the usual lirc_mceusb kernel
module to the lirc_serial module, then configure as normal.<br>
