Why is it that random things seem to happen to my MythTV system?

Things stop working, frontends that could connect now can't. My bankend hangs once in every while (the machine is fine, I can login to it etc, but the mythtv backend is unresponsive) I sometimes get blank recordings (no sound, no picture, just an hour of black silence) sometimes I get zero byte recordings, my backend at one stage suddenly for no reason I could see got very confused about it directories, and now today, again for no apparent reason, it suddenly can't delete live TV recordings.

Why has this happened? How do it happen? Why do I keep getting these random strange events on a system I'm doing nothing on except the basic MythTV things of recording and playback and running the Ubuntu and Mythbuntu updates on?

Is it because Im running the udates?

Despite what I've read here would I be better of just leaving the installation alone and only updating say once a year?

Could it be that because you update the kernel?

I don't know. Do I? I update what I believe I am supposed to update. Ubuntu updates and Mythbuntu. This is the crux of one of my question, are these updates the source of my problems?

It could be. Did you click 'update' whenever you see any updates? You can check which kernel you used before this problem occurred. Just a suggestion though.

Ummu
