<div>Thanks, should I not still be able to compile it depsite the card not being supported? as mentioned in my OP I'm hoping to upgrade the card at some point, likely to a better Nvidia card, so I'd still like to be able to compile with VDPAU support. (Unless having the card in the machine is a requirement for compiling)</div>

<br>Jean-Yves is correct. Colin, you need to turn off vdpau in configure and turn on xvmc. The driver does not support vdpau on your hardware but it does support xvmc. You can delete all the vdpau installs. More on xvmc on the wiki...<br>
