mismatched versions<br>B) Tweaking the database (this happened to me
when I tweaked a couple of columns in something, mebbe recorded table)<br>

unrobust and incompatible with everything except the exact same version.<br>Often
developers add things to the protocol and forget (for a few versions)
to bump the proto-version.</blockquote><div><br>Just to follow up for anyone coming across this in the archive. It was a stupid user error. I had forgotten that at some point in the past I had changed the settings in mythtv-setup on the master backend so that the ip address was 127.0.0.1 rather than an externally accessible one.<br>
