I have a frontend/backend machine that works, i recently installed mythbuntu 8.04 on my laptop as a frontend only. Initially live tv worked great, but I still needed to get my backend prerecorded data mounted to the frontend. To that end I went into the update manager and brought the system fully up to date, then downloaded smbfs from the repository. Once I mounted the necessary network drives within the fstab and ran mount -a I started the frontend again, now I had access to the whole backend including prerecorded files, but could not start live tv. I searched around the internet and found this "<a href="http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2007-November/203175.html">http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2007-November/203175.html</a>" as it seemed similar to the problem i was having I thought to reinstall from the original disk on which live tv worked.<br>
After reinstalling from scratch the frontend's live tv functionality returned, but i needed to mount the network shares. I went to the terminal and attempted to install smbfs but it returned 404 not found. so i opened the update manager and clicked "check" but did not install any updates. After closing the update manager I went back to the terminal and installed smbfs. when the network shares were mounted once again I opened the frontend, but once again the live tv functionality had disappeared. But now i'm getting a different error report. I'm hoping that someone out there knows what i'm doing wrong here.
