I just heard from the Mythbuntu folks.

Mythbuntu 9.10 is based on .22

I think I will jump on the bleeding edge and start with Mythbuntu 9.10 alpha 4.

I've been using hand-me-down cards from older systems with good success. The 8600 GT was the first I opened my wallet to get better video performance and I spent about a week trying to get it to work. Last night I opened my wallet again to purchase a PCI FX5200. I'm sick of the 8600 GT.

With the 8600 GT, I had the card showing as "in use" in the proprietary drivers list, but it would only display in low resolution at 640x480. The system showed the driver in use, but it wasn't really being used.

The other big problem I ran into is when I connected the TV via svideo, during boot up I'd see the text scroll on screen and I'd see the MythBunto load progress bar scroll, but as soon as I should see the MythBuntu desktop, the screen would go black.

I give up.

Thanks for the comments.
Greg
