Hi,

I have a similar problem with Myth on a seperate frontend running on an VIA MiniITX SP13000 running MythDora5. Playing recordings works perfectly 100%.

Watching TV; well that is a different matter but this hasnt worried too much as we tend to watch recordings; even if it is just a little timeshifted.

However, the symptoms;
- opening watch tv brings up the three parts of the OSD which then "blurs" or "smears" upwards but with otherwise a blank screen. Keyboard input is generally ignored and often mythfrontend has to be forcibly closed and reopened.
- opening watchTV set to go straight to pogram guide brings up the live channel in the preview window in the top right; although then opening the TV show full screen works for a short period (half a second) then stutters then locks.

The same channels work fine when recorded and replayed so I can't see how this could be CPU.

Is this the same as you have found when using livetv?

R

2009/8/29 Mark Garland <mythtvusers@markgarland.co.uk>

I'm still new to MythTV, so I'll happily be corrected by "the experts".

To me, looks like your separate front end is trying to access the video file
locally and is failing (cause it's on the backend).

I think there's an "always steam from the backend" option - perhaps enable
that and see how you get on?
Subject: [mythtv-users] Cannot play TV

Hi

I am running Mythtv 0.21 with separate front and back ends. When i try to

watch tv using my frontend computer it starts playing with a black screen.
the on screen display shows the channel number and name and then stops after
about 5 seconds.

The backend log output is below:

How can I fix this?

Thanks
