1394 port on the boxes if really designed for TV/monitors
that have this type of input. Many PCs and external hard
drives have 1394 (firewire) connectors but, because of the
content protection method (5C), which is not generally
supported by that type of device, most PC*s and external
hard drives are not able to use this connection.
Specifically, copy protection is in place and is most likely
the source of your recording issue.

Your pretty well out of luck. I would start looking at devices that can
capture either the data stream directly or can capture off the
component video output of your cable box. There are solutions for both.<br>
