I have a similar problem. <br><br>I've working frontend/backend on the same box (some issues but you can certainly record and watch TV). Ubuntu 8.10.<br><br>I'm trying to add a new, frontend only box (Ubuntu 9.04). The new front end sees the backend -- it lists the shows already recorded and even shows them in the little preview window. But when I try to actually watch them I get an error message saying that the file cannot be found.<br>
<br>The standard output from mythfrontend (run from the terminal) shows a slightly different error -- "file ' ' cannot be found".<br><br>A friend came around with a laptop with a working frontend on it and it was fine, so the problem is at the frontend. I've tried completely removing all traces of mythTV and reinstalling -- even doing a 'sudo find /' to discover and remove all traces of mythtv from the front end box. But whenever it reinsalls it always picks up the settings from somewhere (the backend?!)<br>

I'm trying to rebuild my Myth infrastruccture this weekend. Historically,<br>
I've use KnoppMyth, but I talked mysellf into using Ubuntu this time, as<br>
I'm moving to Ubuntu workstations, and it seemed that would make keeping<br>

I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 X86, and I'v mostly gotten teh backend working. It's<br>
frontend can connect finw. I've got (at the moment) 3 frontends. All of<br>
these (inclusing one just built from scratch using the Howto on the Ubuntu<br>
Help pages), can connect to the MySQL database, just fine. But, they cannot<br>
seem to connect to the myth backend itslef. nmap shows, what I beleive are<br>
the correct, ports open on the backend "panda":<br>

So, I suppose the first question is, How does the frontend know the<br>
namee/addeess of the Myth backend to atempt to connect to? Is it stored in<br>
the database (makes sense that it would be, since the backend connects<br>
directly to that).<br>
