To get lirc to automatically detect the display as an LCD instead of a
VFD, you need to use lirc from CVS. Specifically, you need revision
1.32 or later of lirc_imon.c. If you don't want to use all unreleased
lirc, just drop that one file into lirc-0.8.4a. I'm actually using it
with lirc-0.8.3.

To get lcdproc to correctly use the graphical display, you need to
apply the pactch at
http://codeka.com/blogs/imon/lcdproc-0.5.2-imonlcd-0.3.patch. Then
set the driver to be "imonlcd" in LCDd.conf. You can turn the
backlight off by setting "backlight=0" in the "[imonlcd]" section of
LCDd.conf.

Personally, I find the reverse LCD with backlight very distracting. I
got this case mainly for the cooling, quietness and the built-in IR
receiver. If I'd known the display worked that way, I wouldn't have
gotten it. My return window is about to close and I'm still tempted
to return it.
Are you applying that patch to LCDproc 0.4.5 for iMON (http://venky.ws/projects/imon/#standalone)?

"To get lirc to automatically detect the display as an LCD instead of a VFD, you need to use lirc from CVS."
