I wound up doing my sans-mythtv testing using the following form.<br>
Note that for mplayer you use a period, instead of a comma, between<br>
the zero and the three.<br>

mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.3 -afm hwac3 /some/dolbydigital/audio/file.wav<br>
