all of those changes are still in a GSoC branch of ffmpeg and will<br>
have to be merged into their trunk before other projects like MythTV<br>

Yes, it appears Alex finished the summer by implementing his multithreading code in the h.264 encoder and decoder, which is absolutely great news. Also great is the fact that he's implemented it in multiple other codecs and his approach can be extended to all of the rest. It's really anyone's guess when it will be in ffmpeg trunk, though. We've reached the GSoC "pencil's down" date and the first patches for actual trunk from other participants have been submitted and committed. In my opinion the multithreading changes are by far the most ambitious of the summer, so it may take some time to get through the... erm... *thorough* ffmpeg patch approval process. I hope it's soon, too. It's probably going to come down to a) how clean is the code/how in line is it with ffmpeg go-to dev styles, b) how persistent will he be in making requested changes and c) how soon after that will there be another myth ffmpeg sync.<br>

When I got my HD-PVR, I saw this in the wiki but decided to first try<br>
without doing it since I didn't have convenient access to a Windows<br>
box. I was able to make recordings and run some other simple tests<br>
without loading any firmware. Is loading the firmware still necessary<br>
or is my Rev C2 HD-PVR a refurbished C1 that someone else had already<br>
initialized? I suspect the latter but haven't had time to<br>
investigate. I hope to get back to messing with my HD-PVR next week.<br>
</blockquote><div><br>You are correct, the C2 units come with a firmware (the 1.0B as of this writing). Updating of the firmware to new versions will still require windows for the time being, however. And based on some stuff that I've heard today, we will probably be doing that very VERY soon. ;)<br>
