I was looking yesterday at the support for linux for the "Hauppauge HVR-1600" and it seems promising but I would like to know some hands on user experiences.

I have been using an HVR-1600 to complement my existing PVR-150. I'm using the HVR-1600 to capture only ATSC, though it capable of recording ATSC and analog simultaneously. The 1600 is rock-steady. It's really been a non-issue, and I highly recommend it. The price is reasonable, too.

I suggest looking at the IVTV page for the CX18 chipset (http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Cx18) that's used in the 1600. I'm using a snapshot of the IVTV drivers from mid-July 2008 that's been very stable with my 2.6.25 kernel.

Here's what the kernel log shows for the CX18:

cx18: Start initialization, version 1.0.0
