I'm not using Mythbunu, never used or tried it. I'm using debian etch
and I can say that installing and configuring mythtv frustrates me
every time. Most of the time my frustration lies in the drivers for
the tv cards. You need to supply manually the correct firmware and
driver(options cardnumber, tuner, ...). Wouldn't be nicer everything is
in place when you installed the driver, or the driver configured itself
with the best default options so the card works at least. <br>
I think I spend more than 40 hours to get everything working the way I
want it. Especially on the frontend where the remote control comes in
place. I think all the configuration can be done a lot faster if there
is an optimal configuration by default.<br>

Clearly you didn't read what Jay referred you to. However, can you
tell us what the problem is?
You mention resolution. What resolution does it run at? What
resolution do you think it should run at? You can find out exactly
what resolution you are running at by running in a terminal
xwininfo -root
Is the problem with the laptop monitor or the external or both?
What have you tried? With what result?
When ubuntu installs it write a file named /etc/X11/xorg.conf that has
the configuration for X. If that file doesn't give you any clues then
take a look at the X log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see if this
gives you any perspective on what is happening. (It tends to be long
and involved I'm sorry).</pre>

I think what you needs to do is this: <br>

1) Find the up to date instructions for getting the driver for his USB
Stock Tuner<br>
2) Print the Mythbuntu 8.04 installation guide<br>
3) Reinstall Mythbuntu 8.04 following the instructions line by line
makring off what you do on what you printed.<br>
4) When you get to the part about selecting your TV Tuner card driver,
install the driver per #1 above.<br>
5) Continue following the instructions line by line.<br>

This is not an unusual thing to do. I think I installed Mythbuntu half
a dozzen times as I experimented with different versions and setups.
Sometimes your installation just gets so far from where it started due
to all the experimenting that it is better to start over.<br>

The other issue, imho, is that this is a case of "If you are in a
hurry, you can't get there" Slow down, take your time. It is the
fastest way sometimes.<br>

I base this on the many email we exchanged and your postings on this
list. I may be wrong, but that is my opinion and I am sticking with it.<br>

PS. I would be interested in hearing what other think on this but I am
guessing 40 hours to install Mythbuntu the first time.<br>
