all IDE. I have a 500 GB on my desk I never opened from a while back. and
will use it and my main drive on my current machine for recordings in LVM.

That reminds me, to get acceptable performance on my low end system, I
had to get a separate drive for recordings. This keeps the database
activity and recording activity separated. It's probably also worth
mentioning I'm driving my LCD to it's native resolution, 1366x768. If
your's is 1080p then you'll want higher end hardware.

I can add two data points for driving a 720p projector. My first
system was a P4 2.4GHz system and it almost had enough power using XvMC
if I didn't let it do the commercial tagging while I was trying to
watch. In this case, I only got occasional clicks in the sound so it
was just barely unwatchable.<br>

The new system has a 5400+ AMD. I do not use XvMC and I do not use the
Nvidia proprietary driver (I use nv). It works great.<br>
<br>
As an aside, XvMC causes the sound to stutter when the OSD is on even
on the new system. I highly recommend staying away from XvMC if at all
possible. Basically, I got stuttering until I switched to CPU++.<br>
