Then I have to killall to stop it. This works perfectly fine using<br>
crontab. Why would I resort to using cat? I want something a little<br>
better if it exists. I'd use mythtv if I was starting from scratch. I'm<br>
not opposed to having a complete system with a nice gui. It's just that<br>
it's not absolutely necessary.<br>

Better how?<br>You said you can already control your card, and dump to a file, so are you looking for an easier way to schedule recordings, or a way to archive them, or get program data, or playback functionality, or what?<br>
Personally, I'm not very well versed in what other options exist, but I'm sure there are loads of FOSS projects out there that will fit your needs. Try looking into Freevo, xdtv, fftv, gecko, etc. Be a little more specific as to what you're looking for, and I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.<br>
