When I playback the recording everything is smooth and crystal clear. I can skip through commercials and jump forwards and backwards without problems. However if I pause the recording for a moment, when I un-pause the recording the playback becomes choppy; as if it is dropping a lot of frames. The only way I have found to fix this was to save the position in the recording, exit the recording and restart it from the saved position. I thought it might be a problem with RAM and swap as I only had 512 MB and top showed that I was using swap space. Since my motherboard supports dual channel RAM I ordered two matching 512 MB sticks and installed them and removed the single stick. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem.

I have seen that others have reported the same problem but no answers yet. I can't tell you exactly when it started working, but I know it's fixed for me in current SVN trunk.
