Does anyone have any idea when this should be fixed (like when the next version of the nvidia driver is scheduled to be released)? I have the same problem, but it seems to take a while to take effect. I see on my main desktop machine running Ubuntu 7.10 with a Geforce 7900GT. I can switch to the old driver, but then compiz, and my avant dock (sort of like OS X dock) doesn't seem to work. Video works fine after a reboot, but after a while, it stops working and I get the pink screen. This is true of both Myth, and any other video player (vlc, mplayer, etc). I've chosen to live with it for now, I just have to reboot before I watch video (which ends up being about once a day).

Should already be fixed in the latest nvidia driver (probably not in Ubuntu's repository yet), see...
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=638191&page=2
